I have to pass this damn thing everytime I go to a meeting.

It is so insulting, ridiculous, depressing and frightening that they would even try to pass this off with a straight face.

I have to resist the urge to snatch it off the bulletin board and tear it to pieces.

Mark my words, soon the GB will "suggest" that JWs start dressing in "proper attire" in their day to day lives, i.e., meeting clothes 7 days a week to further "stand out from the crowd and give a witness for Jehovah." There will be elders dropping by unexpectedly, checking that the family is wearing proper attire when eating dinner. Going to the grocery store in jeans and being spotted by another JW will entail a JC meeting. You may be DF'd for being unrepentant and continuing to wear jeans and beat up sneakers when you mow your lawn.

Tell me that couldn't happen!

Suicide story - How many times does this happen.

a pioneer couple were obviously poor so they shoplifted some meat from the supermarket...they were caught and charged and being a small town everyone would know about it, so they killed themselves before the elders could organise a linch mob.

sad story.. another brother just drove off a cliff....brothers would later say how he must have felt guilty over something...idiots!

not nice....he may have been mentally ill or had other issues.. does this happen alot around the world with witnesses under so much pressure to be perfect?.

I notice you live down in Oz, did these things happen to some of the JWs from your area?

I think it happens quite a bit actually and we don't hear about the majority of the cases because the JWs hush them up. Wouldn't want to put the Org in a bad light, you know!

I tried to commit suicide when I was 14. And yes, it was because of being born and raised in the Borg and all the issues that come with it.

Guilt, fear, isolation, anger, depression, paranoia, hopelessness, herd mentality, stifled potential.....

I wanted to die. Death appeared 1000 times better than life as a JW.

More Evidence that Jehovah Is a Tyrant

i have observed that jehovah god is far from the loving father he portrays himself to be.

stifling my sex drive, and then exploiting it by using it to get me into a cult, hardly qualifies god as being loving.

and neither does continuing to stifle the sex drive after i am trying to leave the cult and quite likely using the hounders to reclaim me as their slave.. i found another web site that any theist should urgently look up before looking into any religion, whether jehovah's witnesses or any other "christian" or islam religion.

Even at a young age, I thought Jehovah (when I still believed he existed) was a hateful, petty, spiteful, misogynistic, vindictive bully.

He creates Adam and Eve. Oh wait. He creates Adam alone. He created male and female animals, but decided a human female wasn't needed. Whoops. So then he created Eve out of Adam's rib. Right.

Then, he places the tree of good and knowledge in the garden. He didn't create just an average tree. No, he created it as something desirable and longed for to the eyes and placed it right smack in the middle of the garden. He then tells them no no, you can't eat from it because then you'll know right from wrong.

Basically A & E were wandering around as naked, amoral creatures.

Keep in mind, that Jehovah is all knowing and all seeing. He could see into the future. He knew what was going to go down.

Now we can't have A & E happily wandering around paradise, trying to ignore this tree. No, we have to throw a monkey wrench into the works. Suddenly here comes Satan saying, aw go on! Eat!

Since Jehovah obviously hates anything with tits and a uterus, Eve, the weak one, ate the fruit and then seduces her hubby into doing it as well.

Jehovah is all knowing. HE KNEW THAT WOULD HAPPEN! It was a set up from the word go.

RAWR! YOU ATE MY FRUIT! BAD BAD BAD BAD! OUT YOU GO! Oh, and by the way, I'm going to curse every human from now until I decide to get over it. Whenever that is. I know when, but I ain't gonna tell you! Don't look at me like that! Y'all had free will. This isn't my fault. Now get!

And so, humans were cursed from that day on.

Plenty of more examples of this childish behavior throughout the bible. Killing innocent people, smashing babies on rocks, genocide, demanding human sacrifice (then graciously changing his mind at the last second), allowing (if not endorsing) rape, narcissistic behavior, being jelous and proud of it, sadism, etc. All the while, pointing his finger and telling someone that it was all their fault because of something one of the distant ancestors did.

Where is the love here?! I don't see it. What, was it supposed to be that he gave us life?! Thanks, but no thanks. If he was going to be like that, he could just have well stopped at the animals.

One day I woke up and came to the realization that he isn't even real and I've been at peace ever since.

I think I'm going to go ahead and initiate contact. I'll take it nice and slow and cautiously.

I've got a good feeling about it though. I'm pretty sure he feels the same way about the Borg as I do.

I think I'll start it off [after a respectable amount of catching up chit chat] 'Hey Robert, do you get to a lot of meetings nowadays?'

If he answers no, I'll say something like, 'Me neither. It just isn't in me anymore.'

I'll go from there based on body language, attitude, and tone of voice.

so anyways it was meeting night to night and like always i had to go i showed up late of course so i can miss the first song.

i wasn't wearing a jacket of course so i stood out like a sore thumb.

I know a fellow who like me, was born into the JWs. His father (a long time elder) and mother are both hard core JWs. Let's call him "Robert." Even though he's about 10 years older than me (making him 48), he and I grew up together in the JWs.

Robert has always had a mouth on him. I remember him always whispering and snickering at stuff, from other JWs all the way down to biblical stuff. He was a lot of fun. Oddly though, he was never thought of as bad association. All the witnesses still talk to him and he even goes on trips with other JWs (those whom he can actually stand to be around).

He has faded, came back, and faded again several times in his life.

He has never married and never really had girlfriend. Honestly I think he's bisexual. He's expressed admiration for both male and female beauty. But really for any practical sense, he is asexual. He's celibate and, well, asexual.

Although who knows! He may have a secret boyfriend. Or secret girlfriend. Or maybe one of each!

Anyway, like me, he's never come out and renounced the JWs because of his family and friends. Right now, he goes to meetings off and on. Not fading, not active either.

Although his family and he doesn't go to the congregation I do, I am thinking about making contact with him.

I want to sit down, just him and I, and talk about stuff. I want to tell him that I think the WTBTS is a bunch of crap, I don't believe in any of it, that the whole thing is insane. I would explain to him that the reason I am talking to him is because I think he feels the same and how I'd like to get to know him all over again, but this time with the shared experience of being born into the JWs, thinking it's crap, and so on.

Thing is, although I'm about 75 to 80% sure he feels the same about things and I do, I'm not 100% for sure. Like Neo was told in The Matrix, you can never be sure who is an agent because everyone could be an agent. I'm worried that he might end up being an inactive witness but who still believes and may possibly turn me in once he finds out what I really think.

Aaargh this really sucks! I hate it. Always worried about getting 'caught', always looking over your shoulder, always worried about who may rat you out. All because of the Orwellian nature of the bOrg. Oh yes, such a "loving" organization it is.

What would you all do in this situation? Would you go ahead and contact him and talk about this, or would you play it safe and keep up the charade of being a believing JW?

What's the official stand on aliens

do the jw's officially have a stand on whether there is or can be intelligent physical life outside our planet?

would contact from or evidence of alien life fit in to what jw's believe and teach?

have they paved the way for the possibility that life may be found elsewhere in our solar system - intelligent or otherwise?

It is called the "panspermia theory." Basically, it holds that the earth may have been accidentally seeded by living cells that are wandering through the universe. Modernizing the idea a bit, Leslie Orgel of the Salk Institute and Nobel Prize-winner Francis H. C. Crick have suggested "directed panspermia." Their idea is that an advanced civilization elsewhere in the universe deliberately may have "infected" the earth with life as an experiment. What do you think of that possibility?
It becomes clear, does it not, that such theories really do not solve the question of life’s origin. They just sort of avoid the question by transporting the problem off into the distant universe, despite the fact that scientists have not established: 1) that there are planets elsewhere, much less any qualified to support life, 2) that there are civilizations beyond our solar system, and 3) that there is microscopic life on other planets within our solar system.

Well, they have now indeed discovered planets outside of our solar system. As for microscopic life, I don't believe scientists have come out and said yes definitely because they're still gathering evidence. They have found evidence of what appears to be fossils of microscopic organisms in rocks from Mars, but they're still studying it. I think they're hoping with this latest Mars mission they find definitive proof. Also they're eyeballing Jupiter's moon Europa because they think there's water underneath of its frozen crust.

What's hilarious is that the Org always leaves enough wiggle room that they'll be able to spin anything. So if........

1) Definitive evidence is found of microscopic life on other planets, this will probably result in.....

"proof" of Jehovah's might and how we can't possibly know why Jehovah created microscopic life on Mars, if Jehovah even considers microscopic life as "life" and to "be cautious to not become distracted from spreading the good news by trivial and unimportant scientific discoveries.

2) No evidence is found will probably result in.....

the Org declaring smuggly how it should now be obvious to everyone that the Bible is fact, Jehovah only created life on this planet alone, and Satan tries to use scientists and space exploration to lure faithful witness away from Jehovah's organization, and yap yap yap.

AAAARGH!!! It's maddening.
